About me

Cancer survivor turned consultant turned adventurer

I grew up in Indonesia and currently live in LA, and I work a full-time consulting job. I'm not a full-time traveler, I wouldn't say I'm an expert outdoorsman, nor am I a very seasoned hiker. I'd probably get eaten by a bear if you left me in the wilderness, get lost on a 5-mile hike, and drown if you dropped me in the middle of a lake.

Despite being a city boy, I love the freedom to explore new biomes, hike to the tops of mountains, and sail on the high seas. I go on adventures for the journey, for the views I see through it all, and for a story worth telling.

Going through a brain cancer treatment at 13 showed me that time is limited and is never promised, and I refuse to postpone my life until I have more time, more money, or fewer responsibilities.

In a perfect world, I'd be traveling the world full-time, but not everybody has that privilege. So, no matter how tired I am before work, after work, on the weekends, or using my PTO, I choose to live life as freely as I can and experience everything this world has to offer.

Along the way, I ended up making some of my closest friends at my job. As fresh college grads thrown into the consulting world, we finally had the ability to take proper time off with a paycheck to support it. So, using my PowerPoint skills that I learned on the job, I started Kristantour as a joke to market my trips to my friends: a comprehensive slide deck that encapsulated the story, the logistics, the visuals, the plan, the FAQs, and the itinerary of the trip that I was envisioning.

Making these "Kristantour" guides became a running joke with my friends, and 10+ group trips later, I've become the designated travel planner of our crew–all modeled to fit around a 9-5 job.

This site is where I share those plans and the way I build them, so you can plan trips that fit your life too.

The method behind every guide

Five steps I use for every trip, from a long weekend to three weeks across Europe.

  1. 01

    Feel First

Start with the vibe you want, not the destination.

  2. 02

    Pick Anchors

Choose the few places the whole trip is built around.

  3. 03

Let the Route Decide Home Base

Map the anchors, then stay where the route makes sense.

  4. 04

    Satellite View

Scan the map in satellite view to find the spots nobody posts about.

  5. 05

    One Clean Route

Lock one realistic route with the least time on the road.
